Difficulties with Dell

Maybe some people link Dell to being easy and efficient but in almost every case I have found them to be unable to deliver in either of those two categories, except when receiving a laptop. When a laptop is concerned it has always arrived in good condition but then I was pretty much on my own.

For example, one laptop received a free inkjet printer which I went to the trouble to connect. I soon found that it only worked with ink sold from Dell and that the ink was not listed anywhere for sale. I had tried to call in an order it directly but even when I reached a person they said that they could not sell it to me and that only a special sales representative could, however I could not get a direct number to this special person. They could only call me back within a few days... which they never did. The long automatd voice menu never led anywhere. I finally had to throw it out since there was no way.

Trying to order an extension to a laptop warranty was equally impossible... so far. You can not order it diirectly online, you can only fill out a form asking someone to contact you to discuss extending the warranty. After filling out the form, again no one ever called back.

Ordering an extra laptop battery is equally trying. Although their website says it is “usually shipping in 24hours” after waiting a week I logged back on to their website to check the status and the shipping date was a month away. After calling and reaching someone they kindly explaind that there has been a huge shortage on those batteries and that is why the shipment date is a month away. I asked why they said it would normaly ship in 24 hours when they new it was backordered for over a month and she said that she did not know why. After a month went by (when the site continued to say it would be available “normally in 24 hours&rdquoWinking I received an email saying that they were required by federal law to cancel my order unless I contated them.

Finally, one a colleague had ordered some Microsoft Office licenses from them for the company. After getting them and installing a few okay he had postponed upgrading the rest of the computers. Afterwards, when the time came to install the rest the install keys did not work. Microsoft said it ws a problem with Dell and Dell said it must be something with Microsoft.

Overall, not a good list of experiences.
